Alt text & Titles

All non-decorative images utilise the alt attribute to provide descriptive text alternatives and, where appropriate, descriptive title attributes have been added to links providing a fuller description of the destination page.

Javascript

There is no reliance upon client-side scripting (javascript) for functionality as a percentage of users have this disabled. The site contains no popup windows, or client-side form validation.

Built to (evolving) standards

The Modes website is built to W3C specifications. We aim to make all HTML and CSS valid, and to follow the WAI accessibility guidelines. In some cases content editors may inadvertently add non-comforming content. Should you find a page that does not validate or causes any problems then please let us know. Please note that some HTML5 and CSS3 properties used on the site will not pass a validation test using the current service available online from the W3C.

Browser Compatibility

We have used HTML5 syntax on the page. Older versions of Internet Explorer struggle with some of this new syntax, and we have implemented javascript “workarounds” to try to bring them up to speed.

The site has been thoroughly tested in many modern browsers on Windows, MacOS and Linux. It is also built to “degrade gracefully” in older browsers. This means it may not look the same, but all the information in the site will still be accessible.
