Review of the Year – Modes Users in 2017

Happy Christmas from all at Modes. Review 2017It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas – and here at Modes we’ve been as busy as Santa’s elves. What a year it’s been!

2017, the year that Modes made a move for the better with a relocation of ‘Modes HQ’ to a stylish new office space at Sadler Bridge Studios, opposite Derby Museum and Art Gallery. The team are delighted to be in a lovely warm office in such a bustling and historic part of the city!

February saw the completion of our comprehensive market research survey – the results of which will help to shape future developments at Modes. Our aim is to keep up with the latest technical developments and continue to deliver high-quality products and services to all our users.

Throughout the year, Nick has been working his way into Santa’s good books by delivering onsite training days the length and breadth of the country – whilst back in the office Richard, Diane and Francine have been dealing with your queries and giving out help and advice.

Wiltshire Conservation Services 2017In March, we caught up with senior conservator, Beth Baker at Wiltshire Conservation and Advisory Service, to discover how they use Modes record features for the complex procedures of this highly specialist discipline.

The new Modes forum was also launched this year. Here, users can share questions about Modes with other users. Log on to the Modes website to use this feature.

With the usual flurry of events and activities throughout the summer, the year has flown past, and September saw the launch of the new collections standard Spectrum 5.0.  Modes Complete remains a fully Spectrum compliant application, but we will be rolling out an update incorporating all the changes to the standard within the next 18 months.

Annual Workshop 2017In October, Modes held a very successful Annual Workshop and AGM. Our guest speakers really energised the room – and we were pleased so many of you found the new Knowledge Café so instructive. As always, Modes appreciated the useful suggestions and feedback from attending delegates – your input is valued and helps to ensure you continue to receive a high level of service.

30 years of Modes software2017 was a milestone year for Modes - 30 years since the first version of MODES was released by the MDA, and 20 years since development was taken over by the Modes Users Association - still going strong today. We’re very pleased to remain the most popular collections software in the UK.  Our numbers have grown by 20% in the last five years, and we welcomed nearly 50 new users during 2017.
